You are expecting an important email from the client, he just confirmed over the phone that the mail has left his outbox but the message is nowhere to be found in your inbox. An hour later, the email finally arrives. →See the entire path travelled by the email messageEmails are usually delivered in a second or two so why did it take so long for this particular message to reach your mailbox? Was it due to the attachments? Or was there a problem with your mail server?You can usually find the reason for the delay in the email message itself. Open the message inside Gmail and choose Show Original to view the message headers.Here you will see a list of machines (or servers) that a message had to pass through before reaching the recipient's mailbox. The IP addresses are listed in the reverse order so start from the bottom all the way up to see the actual path travelled by an email message.The message headers may appear complex and geeky but they really aren't. For instance, the following line from the headers simply indicates that Google's mail server received the message from Hotmail servers on 29-Jul-2012 at 07:25:37 (PDT).Received: from dub0-omc3-s2.dub0.hotmail.com ([157.55.2.11])
by mx.google.com with ESMTP id 92.2012.07.29.07.25.36;
Sun, 29 Jul 2012 07:25:37 -0700 (PDT)Now copy the full message header to the clipboard and paste it into Google Apps' Toolbox. This tool will analyze the email's path and, based on the timestamps when it passed the different machines, it will tell you the exact source that is responsible for delaying the message delivery. Do you have any photographs on your iPhone (or iPad) that you wish to hide from family members while they are casually flipping through the photo albums on your iOS device? →Hide the iPhone photos in the photo library itselfHow to Hide Photos on your iPhone /iPadThe Apps Store is flooded with apps that can password protect your iOS photos or your even use Dropbox. First transfer the sensitive pictures from the camera roll to your Dropbox folder and then add a 4-digit Passcode to the Dropbox app. Thus, your photos stay on the device but completely hidden.Here's another trick (see video demo) that will let you hide photos inside your photo albums but without requiring any apps or passwords.Open the photo library on your iPhone (or iPad) and tap the photo that you wish to keep a secret.Tap "Edit" and then tap the "Crop" tool at the bottom.Drag the corners of the cropping box inside such that a very small portion of the image is visible inside that box.Save the cropped version and it will replace the original image in your camera roll.When you edit a photo inside iOS, the original copy gets saved along with the edited version and hence we can easily get back to the original unedited version. A store had this large QR code poster at the entrance window that read – "Like our Facebook Page for offers." I scanned the QR code with my mobile phone and it redirected me to the store's website that wasn't quite mobile-friendly. I spent around 8 seconds on the website but couldn't locate the Facebook Like button and left. →It was a missed opportunity for the brand as the QR Code failed to generate an additional Like on the Facebook Page.QR Code that links to a Facebook Like buttonEncourage Social Action with QR CodesWhat the store really needs is a dedicated landing page that would provide customers an option to quickly "Like" the Facebook Page without confusing them with too many options. Also, the design of this page has to be mobile friendly as there's a 99.99% probability that customers would use a mobile phone to scan the QR code on the go.Scan this QR Code for a sample.If you would like to build a similar landing page that encourages people to Like your Facebook Page and Follow you on Twitter, you can start with this simple template. The changes you need to make include:Line #83 – Replace the website name and URL with your official site.Line #97 – Replace "example" with your Facebook Page username.Line #100 – Replace "example" with your Twitter handleLine #107-110 – Add your phone number, email and a link to Google Maps.Line #136 – Replace UA-XX with your Google Analytics ID.Save the file with a .html extension and upload it to a web server. Generate a QR Code of that URL and paste the new image outside your store.Social QR CodeWe are using Google Analytics on the Landing Page and hence we can easily determine how many people have actually scanned the QR code image. You can directly point the QR Code to your Facebook Page as well but then we are losing an opportunity to track the visitor and the effectiveness of our social campaign.One more thing.
