A warning message in Google Chrome v22.0Google wants your Chrome browser safe and therefore discourages users from installing any web apps and extensions that aren't available in the official Chrome Web Store. →If someone tries to add an unapproved extension (CRX file) or a user-script (*.user.js) in Chrome, the browser will throw a yellow warning message as shown in the above screenshot. There's however an easy workaround to this problem.First download the CRX file of any Chrome extension /web-app to your computer. Then click the Settings icon in Chrome (previously a Wrench icon) and go to Tools -> Extensions. Drag and drop the CRX file on this page and Chrome will gladly install the add-on.Here's a video demo illustrating all the steps in detail. The same technique can be used to install the unofficial Greasemonkey userscripts in Chrome.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AQWUhHt35cAlso see: View Source of a Chrome Extension This story, How to Install Extensions Not Available in the Chrome Web Store [Video], was originally published at Digital Inspiration on 01/10/2012 under Google Chrome, Internet.

How to Download iOS Apps Stuck on "Waiting.."

http://www.labnol.org/internet/download-apps-stuck-on-waiting/25793/

Oct 1st 2012, 23:03

Trying to update an iOS App but download it taking forever? You open the iTunes Apps Store on your iPad /iPhone and click "install" to download an app. The app icon appear on your device home screen with the "waiting.." status. You go for a coffee, come back but the app hasn't downloaded yet – the blue progress bar on the app's icon isn't moving and the status is still "waiting." →This isn't a new problem but am facing it more and more ever since I upgraded the second-generation iPad to iOS 6. The official Apple forums are flooded with similar complaints and there has been no official response /fix so far.Resume App Downloads on your iOS DeviceSo how do you download and update apps that are stuck at "waiting.." forever? Now  doesn't really help but here are some possible solutions:You can download the app on your computer using iTunes and then sync to transfer the app to your iPhone /iPad.Or, long-tap the icon on the home-screen until the icons begins to shake. Now delete the "waiting" app and reinstall it from the iTunes store. This isn't the best option as you  may lose some of the custom settings that were previously associated with the app.Or, single tap the app's icon on the home screen and it will pause the download. Now go back to the iTunes Apps store, switch to the "Updates" screen and click "Update" to resume the download. This is what I do on my iOS device and the fix works most of the times.Or, go to Settings -> iTunes & App Stores and tap the Apple ID to sign-out. Restart the iPad, go back to Settings -> iTunes Apps Store and sign-in. Tap the waiting icon to update the app.Tried trick #3 with the "stuck" app and downloading resumed This story, How to Download iOS Apps Stuck on "Waiting..", was originally published at Digital Inspiration on 01/10/2012 under IPad, IPhone, Internet.

Twitter Launches a People Directory

http://www.labnol.org/internet/twitter-people-directory/25780/

List of all Twitter profiles arranged by nameTwitter has recently added a profiles directory where all the public Twitter profiles are listed alphabetically by name. Facebook offers a similar people directory as well that seems to have heavily inspired the design of Twitter's directory. Google Plus too maintains a public listing of profiles but the information is hidden inside thousands of XML files. →People directories, likes the ones now available on Twitter and Facebook, aren't necessarily useful to human visitors (unless you are trying to research particular names or surnames) but they are like sitemaps that help search engines bots discover every single profile that exists on the social network.Twitter's people directory doesn't have a search function but you can take the help of Google to find the existence of your name in that massive directory. Try the following search query in Google:site:twitter.com/i/directory/profiles "your name"There are 100 Twitter profiles listed per page and Google has discovered about 250,000 pages so far which is equivalent to 25 million profiles. They still have some work to do as Twitter has in excess of 500+ million profiles and most of them are public. The directory lists both English names as well as profile that have non-Latin characters in their names. Digital Inspiration Technology Blog: Google Users in Pakistan Suffer as ISPs Block Sites Without Reason

Google Users in Pakistan Suffer as ISPs Block Sites Without Reason

http://www.labnol.org/internet/google-users-in-pakistan-suffer/25734/

Oct 1st 2012, 13:00

It is unfortunate that inept ISPs have gained the power to disrupt businesses and create massive inconvenience. We have seen that happen in India recently when ISPs blocked entire web domains though the government /court orders required them to limit access to a single youtu.be URL. →Something similar is happening in our neighborhood Pakistan where PTA, the telecom authority, has been randomly blocking  Google websites – like Google Drive, Analytics, Maps, Google Play Store and even Google Apps – though the Supreme Court had ordered them to only block the anti-Islam videos on YouTube. This tweet best sums up the situation in PakistanAn Android developer complained that he was unable to update his Twitter app as Google Play store was blocked in the country. Jawwad Farid has written an open letter to Google asking them to fix differences with the government as the ban affects everyone who depends on Google products for a living...250,000 active loyal customers can no longer access your products in Pakistan. Analytics, webmaster and Adwords accounts have slowed to a crawl. Gmail can no longer be accessed on our android devices. Docs, Apps and Play are dead in the water.Jawwad told me on Twitter that it is more a "war of will between PTA, Google & Pakistan's Interior ministry" and that freelancers in Pakistan are the biggest affected segment. The Google Analytics service was blocked too and, as a result, any website that used the Analytics code for tracking (non-asynchronously) would take forever to load inside Pakistan.A (laughable) petition recently filed in the Supreme Court argues that Google is unlawfully using the name 'Pakistan' on its web portal though the company "does not have any agreement or legal permission from Pakistan for conducting business operations here."Google users in Pakistan have taken to Twitter to vent their displeasure.Google Play! For next 5 days apps for 25c only. yay!! we got noobs at PTA who don't know which url 2 block n which 2 not.— Awais (@Awais16) September 26, 2012Someone elaborate to me what kind of *** work for #PTA .. YouTube and Google services aren't responsible for people being f**tards.— Minerva (@MhwshB) September 29, 2012Which moron is responsible for blocking Google developer APIs in #Pakistan? #PTA #Pasha #Pissedoff— Umair Aziz (@Umair_Aziz) September 28, 2012PTA have blocked play.google.com i.e. Google Play Store, probably these idiots can't simply block youtube? #Pakistan— BaburYaqub (@BaburYaqub) September 26, 2012Dumb heads of PTA. code.google.com is also blocked. What the hell!— Mohsin Hijazee (@MohsinHijazee) September 25, 2012SO no google docs, drive and an analytics that's working spotty at best. Oh PTA your face is haram.— iMbet OCsalev (@imbetdotcom) September 23, 2012These idiots don't even know how to block a website. Most of #Google web properties are sluggish or not working at all. #Pakistan #PTA— Asad Memon (@asadmemon) September 25, 2012Dear #PTA, You suck! Sincerely, A Google Docs User #YouTubeBanIssues— Nabeel Khalid (@nubeals) September 24, 2012Now, what the hell has Google Docs to do with blasphemy? Why the heck has PTA blocked it?— Usman Qazi (@UsmanQazi1) September 25, 2012Is Google Docs/Drive also banned in Pakistan? Trying to share this form with my book club & it isn't working for some— Chalo ji. (@guldaar) September 25, 2012Dear PTA, how am i supposed to update my twitter app when u've seems to block Google Play!just curious— Murtaza Hashmi (@murtaza_7) September 22, 2012Life without YouTube, Google Docs, Google Apps, wTools is worse than what you might think. #Pakistan is tough place to build a startup.— Waqas Ali (@WaqasADay) September 30, 2012When services like Google Docs, Apps, Drive, Adwords, YouTube etc are not working, it impacts a lot of people who are using them— jehan_ara (@jehan_ara) September 28, 2012Some Google services have been restored in the country but, whether it is India or Pakistan, we desperately need a permanent solution. Our ISPs should be held accountable for doing "more than what is required" and should not be allowed to disrupt online businesses just because of their "technical ineptness."
